F(ai)rytales (2022) is a series of animated gifs crafted utilizing The Big Sleep, an open-source text-to-image notebook developed by Reddit user u/advadnoun.
In this series, I reimagined timeless fairytales and myths through a darker lens, leveraging emerging technology to explore new narrative dimensions. Inspired by the juxtaposition of traditional storytelling mediums and the evolving landscape of AI, my aim was to provoke contemplation on the potential ramifications of integrating AI into our narrative traditions. By presenting these tales in a darker context, I sought to highlight the unsettling possibilities of AI while underscoring its uncertain impact on the storytelling landscape for future generations.”
Prior to experiencing the series, it’s essential for viewers to grasp the context: during the creation of this collection, AI art was still in its infancy, and the profound impact it would have on the industry was unforeseeable. I adamantly oppose the substitution of human creativity with AI-generated art. The primary aim of this series is to underscore the inherent risks associated with the use of AI in art and storytelling.
